The Office of Sustainable Development's mission is to provide leadership and contribute practical solutions to ensure a prosperous community where people and nature thrive, now and in the future.
Programs
The Office provides leadership and support practical solutions to improve the environmental, social and economic health of Portland. OSD delivers policy and programs that integrate efforts related to energy efficiency, renewable resources, waste reduction and recycling, global warming, green building and sustainable food systems.
History
The Office of Sustainable Development was created in September 2000 by merging the Solid Waste & Recycling Division, previously part of the Bureau of Environmental Services, with the Energy Office, which housed the City’s energy and green building programs and staffed the Sustainable Development Commission. OSD currently has a staff of about 40.
